Stokrose is Danish for Hollyhock. It is one of my favorite flowers. They used to sow themselves and grow wild in the garden of my childhood home. Now when I try to grow them in my own garden, they never really succeed.
This summer, I spent a week in the Danish town, Faaborg, where the hollyhocks grow everywhere in the streets. The tiny alleys full of hollyhocks literally take you back to the time of Hans Christian Andersen, especially in Faaborg where very few cars drive in the center of town. It is such a feature that the locals now have started to sell small bags of seeds for us to grow in our own garden. I will be moving house soon, so I did not get any seeds myself this year - hope to get some for my new place next year though!
