I went to Bologna on a short day trip. Bologna tends to be one of the overlooked cities in Italy, but it is definitely worth a day trip or longer.
A very vibrant city with many people around. It seems somewhat younger than Florence, as it has many more large avenues and open squares. And the food market is attractive with its small stalls and places for snacks.
We spent a nice sunny afternoon with a spritz by our side on the small square of Piazza Santo Stefano, just watching the world go by. Spring is in the air these days, so enjoy.
