I want to experiment a bit with textured knitting being inspired by a Craftsy class with Melissa Leapman as well as my well-used book "200 knitted blocks" by Jan Eaton.
Reversible textured stitch patterns would fit well to a blanket, as they have a nice pattern on each side, so I want to add these to my on-going project of knitting blog-inspired squares for my blanket, which i started beginning of last year.
I invite you to knit along with me this time.
The very first square will be in a simple knit/purl (K/P) pattern, so that also beginners can join in.
First some background on the project:
Yarn: Cascade 220
(super-wash wool)
Needle: 4.5 mm
I knit squares of approximately 19 x 19 cm each (gauge not so important as long as the squares end up roughly the same size).
And here is the pattern for this first square in a chevron pattern:
- Cast on 41 stitches.
- Knit 4 rows.
- Row 1: K3, P1, K1, *P7, K1, repeat 3 times from *, P1, K3.
- Row 2: K4, *P1, K7, repeat 3 times from *, P1, K4.
- Row 3: K6, *P5, K3, repeat 3 times from *, K3.
- Row 4: K3, *P3, K5, repeat 3 times from *, P3, K3.
- Row 5: K7, P3, *K5, P3, repeat twice from *, K7.
- Row 6: K3, P4, *K3, P5, repeat twice from *, K3, P4, K3.
- Row 7: K8, *P1, K7, repeat twice from *, P1, K8.
- Row 8: K3, P5, *K1, P7, repeat twice from *, K1, P5, K5.
- Row 9; K4, *P1, K7, repeat 3 times from *, P1, K4.
- Row 10: K3, P1, *K1, P7, repeat 3 times from *, K1, P1, K3,
- Row 11: K3, *P3, K5, repeat 3 times from *, P3, K3.
- Row 12: K6, *P5, K3, repeat 3 times from *, P3, K3.
- Row 13: K3, P4, *K3, P5, repeat twice from *, K3, P4, K3.
- Row 14: K7, *P3, K5, repeat twice from *, P3, K7.
- Row 15: K3, P5, *K1, P7, repeat twice from *, K1, P5, K3.
- Row 16: K8, *P1, K7, repeat twice from *, P1, K8.
- Repeat rows 1 to 16, 2 more times.
- Knit 3 rows.
- Bind off on the 4th row.
I hope that you were able to follow my short descriptions, as this is the very first pattern that i have written out for someone else. Let me know what you think.
As you see, I couldn't help myself and added some single zigzag in a different tone, which makes the pattern less reversible, so if you want to keep the blanket nice on each side, just use one colour.
Good luck.
